STUART WONG

Ward: Lambton / Pukehinau

Stuart Wong is standing for Council to help make Wellington a better place to live, work, and do business. He’s focused on managed change, not constant disruption, and wants the Council to prioritise core services like roading, water, and infrastructure, while reducing overall spending.

A seasoned business owner, Stuart has been self-employed for over 30 years, including 10 years as the local representative for Moana, suppliers of premium fresh seafood sold to Wellington’s hospitality sector and through Moore Wilson’s Fresh. He understands the challenges local businesses face and wants to create the right conditions for commerce to thrive.

Stuart is also a Justice of the Peace and brings strong community values alongside practical business experience. He believes the Council must reduce debt, cut back on unaffordable big-ticket projects, and rein in operational costs. “In the private sector,” he says, “businesses that spend more than they earn don’t survive. Council should be run like a business, not treat ratepayers like a bottomless ATM.”

Originally from the Hutt Valley, Stuart has lived in Wellington City for 20 years. In that time, he’s seen the city regress and the once-thriving hospitality industry struggle. He’s standing to help turn that around, with stability, accountability, and a back-to-basics approach.
