ANDREW LITTLEāS HOUSING POLICY WILL FURTHER DESTROY WELLINGTON
–
Wellington mayoral candidate Andrew Little has unveiled a Labour Party housing plan that will further destroy Wellington, punish hard-working families, and make the city even more unaffordable for the very people who built it.
The Labour Partyās proposals for housing will not stimulate the local economy. They will entrench high rates that crush those on fixed incomes ā students, pensioners and first home buyers ā and drive families and businesses out of our city for good.
Ray Chung exposes the hypocrisy: āIn his council housing policy, Andrew Little says Wellington āisnāt an affordable place to live, it's for the richā yet he is proposing policies that will only make the problem much worse for ordinary families.ā
āThe most damning aspects of Labourās plan are clear: the lie that ratepayers must subsidise roading and new housing, and the push to massively expand social housing. Both are central government responsibilities already paid for by your taxes. Wellington ratepayers should not be forced to pay twice to fund this socialist agenda.ā
āLabour knows their policies will cause hardship, which is why theyāre pushing schemes like free public transport, cheap loans and reverse mortgages to help people pay their rates. Thatās how bad itās got. These are nothing but new ways to steal your wealth and burden your children and grandchildren. The council should be slashing rates, not helping you go deeper into debt to pay their bloated bills.ā
Social housing is set to cost Wellington ratepayers a staggering $300 million over the next decade. This is a complete betrayal of ratepayers who are already struggling to survive. A city under Labour Party rule will only increase the financial and spiritual bondage on families who are trying to do the right thing, Ray says.
Eastern ward candidate Michelle McGuire says, āthe local economy will only be revived by ruthlessly cutting the rates and compliance burden, lowering the commercial differential, and actually streamlining building regulations ā something the current councillors have talked about for years but never delivered. Wellingtonās population has stagnated because of these failed socialist policies. Until we make Wellington affordable again for families and businesses, the exodus will continue.ā

Michelle McGuire is one of the Independent Together candidates along with Paula Muollo (Southern ward), Ken Ah Kuoi (Eastern), Stuart Wong (Lambton) and Guy Nunns and Ray Chung (Western Onslow). These candidates have united behind pillar policies that include a zero rates increase, returning council to core services, and removing party politics and radical left agendas from council decision making.
āThe Independent Together team are the only ones with the courage to stand against this radical left assault on our ratepayers and families. Andrew Littleās policies are hollow and destructive. They will deepen the cost-of-living crisis, drive more people out of Wellington, and waste your hard-earned money on failed socialist experiments,ā Michelle says.
āItās time to elect leaders who will put Wellingtonians and their families first, not the Labour Party machine. Itās time to end the stranglehold of party politics and this godless socialist agenda at the council table once and for all.ā
