Ward: Onslow-Western / Wharangi
Bex (Rebecca) Shepherd is a self-employed property owner, lawyer, and businesswoman and is standing for council to help get Wellington back to the city that people can be proud of. Bex is shocked how her rates have doubled in the last five years and she acknowledges that many people are finding it more difficult to live here. She is a former director of DVS Ltd and Econo-Heat NZ Ltd but spends some time these days volunteering at St Vincent de Paul in Khandallah, her son’s school and sports club and other needs in her local community. She is a member of the Khandallah Community Choir, a committee member of the Harbour City Rock & Roll Club and a member of the Raroa Intermediate Fundraising Team. Bex is looking forward to bringing her business knowledge/experience and common sense to bring down the cost of rates to property owners. A South Islander originally, she has made Wellington home for 29 years, with 27 years in Western-Onslow. She is driven by her strong sense of justice and positivity to ensure it remains an affordable city in which to live. She lives in Ngaio with her son and has an a daughter at Massey University in Palmerston North. A mezzo-soprano, Bex enjoys singing and has performed professionally, as a chorus member for NZ Opera and with Centre Stage Productions performing in “Music Halls as a soloist” and for koha at community events and at Retirement Villages. She’s also performed for Wellington and Porirua amateur theatre/musical societies since she moved to Wellington nearly 30 years ago. She also enjoys walking her dog, Minnie!
