Rayward (Ray) Chung is a current Wellington City Councillor for the Onslow-Western Ward and is also running to be the next Mayor of Wellington to provide the leadership the city needs.

A lifelong Wellingtonian, Ray brings a strong background in international sales, finance, and technology to the Independent Together team. Ray had a successful global career in the telecommunications and technology industries, working for companies across the United States, Sweden, Germany, and the UK for Siemens, Hansaluftbild, Trimble, Andrew Corporation, Graseby Goring-Kerr, Ericsson and other cutting-edge companies.

Ray believes that strong businesses and secure employment are vital to a thriving city, especially for our youth and older residents. He knows what smart financial management looks like and is committed to cutting wasteful council spending, lowering rates, and tackling the city’s ballooning debt, currently costing Wellington $2 million a week in interest alone.

Ray is determined to restore Wellington’s financial health and revitalise a city that’s been languishing under current leadership. He’s known for his energy, approachability, and willingness to meet with residents across the city to hear their concerns and share ideas.

A founding member of the Onslow Residents’ Community Association (ORCA), Ray lives in Broadmeadows with his wife Lorraine, their two West Highland Terriers, Hollee and Radlee, and their much-loved Russian Blue cat, Wolfgang Amadeus Meowzart.
