Focused on What Matters: A Voice for Ratepayers
Originally from Taiwan, Lily Brown has proudly called Wellington home since 1998. She came to New Zealand on a one-year university scholarship from the Asia 2000 Foundation—and never left. Captivated by the country and the capital, Lily became a New Zealand citizen and has been an active member of the community ever since.
For the past five years, Lily has worked at the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners. The college supports GPs and rural doctors and sets standards for safe practices. She also works as a professional interpreter, connecting people across languages and cultures with clarity and care.
Lily believes that ratepayers and local businesses have been burdened with unreasonable rate increases year after year. She’s particularly concerned about the growing financial pressure on those on fixed incomes, like pensioners, who are struggling to keep up.
Her priority is getting Council back to basics—focusing on the core services and infrastructure that matter most, not chasing the next shiny idea. Her goal: zero rates increase.
Lily has lived in the Onslow-Western Ward since 2004, calling Khandallah, Crofton Downs, and Wadestown home. She and her husband, Jonathan, have a son studying engineering at Canterbury University.
Lily wants to help make Wellington a vibrant, liveable city once again—where people feel safe, businesses thrive, and essential services are delivered reliably and responsibly.
