Libby Carson is a seasoned transformation specialist, leader, and strategist who has spent her career helping organisations thrive. Now she’s bringing that same energy and expertise to support the Independent Together team as Campaign Manager.

A proud Wellingtonian, Libby is frustrated with the state of the city and the direction of the Wellington City Council. She believes it’s time for change – real, practical, and people-focused – and is proud to be backing a team of candidates who share that vision.

Libby has over two decades of leadership experience, having served as CEO, General Manager, and consultant across a wide range of sectors, including health, NGOs, membership organisations, and commercial enterprises. She has led teams of up to 190 people, managed budgets exceeding $20 million, and has a reputation for delivering results – whether that involves reducing costs, improving performance, or empowering people to succeed.

Known for her calm, strategic approach and her ability to drive strong teams, Libby is also a skilled communicator and connector. Her leadership style is collaborative, values-driven, and grounded in integrity. She has led complex transformations, strengthened financial sustainability, and created environments where people and businesses can thrive. Now, she’s putting her energy into helping Wellington do the same.

Libby is married to Ken, a security professional and business owner with over 40 years of experience. Together, they are proud parents to their son Charlie, who is currently a student at Wellington College. Libby is also deeply proud of her stepdaughters, Kelly and CJ. Their family is completed by Harry, their much-loved Cavoodle, who brings energy and joy to their lives.

Libby’s Platform: Bringing common sense back to Council—by electing independent, community-minded councillors with strong financial acumen, a focus on core services, and no time for ideological distractions or vanity projects.
