MIKE PETRIE

Mike Petrie is a well-known Wellingtonian, a professional musician and the owner of Cuba Barbers for over 25 years. A hairdresser by trade and a successful small business owner, Mike understands the vital role that the arts, music, and independent enterprises play in keeping Wellington vibrant and alive.

For more than 35 years, Mike’s job has been to listen – literally. He connects one-on-one with the more than 100 customers each week who sit in his barber’s chair, hearing first-hand what Wellingtonians are going through. He knows the struggles local residents and business owners are facing, and he’s ready to bring those voices to the Council table.

Mike is a strong advocate for small to medium-sized enterprises – the cafés, restaurants, bookshops, and bars that form the beating heart of our city. “Why else do people come into town,” he asks, “if not to work, go to the gym, or enjoy what local businesses have to offer?”

Mike is standing to champion local operators, support Wellington’s creative sector, and make the city more accessible and appealing for both locals and visitors alike.
